In addition to its edible cucumber-flavored leaves and attractive star-shaped purple flowers (also edible), borage attracts honeybees and is a good companion plant to strawberries, squash, legumes, brassicas, and tomatoes. It is known to deter the tomato hornworm. Often used in salads or as a garnish in drinks. Although it is an annual, borage will continue to grow back if allowed to go to seed.
Lifecycle: annual
Sunlight: full to part sun
Maturity: 55 days
Height: 12-24"
Spread: 12-14"
Bloomtime: mid-spring, late-spring, early summer
Special notes: borage will self-seed but is not invasive.
H O W TO P L A N T
Plant seeds just below the soil in spring and keep well watered. Borage grows easily and once established will freely self-seed.
