D E T A I L S
With classic star shaped foliage and stunning spikes of purple flowers, blooming lupine are a tell-tale sign that spring is finally here. A common wildflower, lupine is anything but common. Showy and remarkable, lupine is a must have for the cottage garden.

H O W TO P L A N T
Seeds may be planted in autumn for natural stratification, or stratified in the refrigerator for 24 hours-1 week before spring planting. Just prior to planting, soak seed in water for 24 hours. Plant seed 1/8" deep where desired or in seedling trays. Select growing site carefully, lupine has deep taproots and does not like to be transplanted. Seedlings can be planted in the garden as soon as the ground is ready to be worked. Lupine prefers well drained soil with little to no compost or amendments. Does best in sandy soils. Although they are considered perennials, individual plants usually do not survive more than a few years. Because they are productive self-seeders, new plants usually come up if allowed to self seed.
