H O W TO P L A N T
Coreopsis seeds need to be stratified. Stratification is a process where winter conditions are simulated so that germination may occur. Seeds may be sown in fall for natural stratification or simply store seeds in an airtight container in the refrigerator for at least 24 hours before sowing. Seeds require light for germination. Sow seeds indoors in late winter, or outdoors in seedbed in midspring. Cut plants back in midsummer if their growth becomes straggly. This prevents excessive flowering, which can kill the plant. Cut plants back nearly to the ground in late summer or early fall to encourage healthy new foliar growth. Allow foliage to remain for the winter, then clean up the plants in the spring.
