As its name suggests the everlasting sweet pea is a perennial sweet pea. Mostly unscented unlike most annual sweet peas. Sweet pea is a flowering, climbing plant, growing to a heights of 5 ft where suitable support is available. Much like the edible pea, it has tendrils that help it climb -this sweet pea IS NOT edible however. The flowers range in color from light pink to deep magenta. Some fade to purple when picked.

You can begin sowing sweet pea seeds about a month before the last frost date and continue to plant throughout the summer. Seeds sown in fall will bloom the following season. Seeds can also be started indoors in deep containers to prevent root disturbance at transplanting.
Before planting, soak sweet pea seeds overnight in luke warm water to soften the seed's hard shell to ensure quick germination. This step is not necessary if seeds are sown in fall. To sow seeds outdoors, drop them into a furrow 1" deep and 2-3" apart. After sowing, cover your seeds by pulling soil over your furrow.
Tall sweet peas need a well-anchored support to climb up. Erect one during planting so that it will be in place as soon as your seedlings are ready to start climbing.
